Philippines: Jumping over Spines
6 or more players, aged 5 and up, played indoors and outdoors.
The game starts with two players sitting on the floor with soles
of their feet touching and the other players simply jump over the
first spine; the 2 pairs of feet.
Once all the players have cleared the first spine, the two
sitting players must form another spine. They do this by stretching
forward and bending at the knees. Then each player extends his
right hand and stretches his fingers to form a fan. One hand is
thus positioned above the other, with the thumb of the bottom hand
touching the pinky of the upper hand. Two hands are places, of
course, on top of the two pairs of feet.
The rest of the players must jump over these two spines, and
then another spine, like the second one but using the two left
hands is formed, over which players must also jump. Invariably
jumpers will go out as they cannot clear the spines, but jumpers
should go quickly because the spines are having a difficult time
controlling their posture. The first two players to go out must
form the spines for the next game, and of course, the last player
able to clear the spines is the winner.
