New System By Anonymous When I came to Canada I was 15 years old; now I am 18. The experiences I have had are extremely understandable because of the many changes I have been through. Some of these changes include the culture, language, food and education. Education and language were the toughest because in my mother country I never went to school due to the lack of money and stability. My first day of school was a nightmare because first of all I didn’t know anybody, second I didn’t speak their language, and third because I wasn’t used to being around people that were not my family. When I went to the principal’s office they didn’t know what to do with me. They were trying to speak to me but neither them nor I understood what we were talking about. It was if we were yelling at one another—noise was the only thing I heard. Later in the day they took me to my classroom and I was so tired, bored and really desperate that I fell asleep in my class. When they woke me up my interpreter was there and she took me home. I didn’t go back to school but they took me to ESL class where I could learn English. Six months later I went back to high school and now high school was good because I could understand when they were talking to me. Now I’m in grade 11 and I love learning and I also have adjusted to this new system of learning.
