My Story By Eh Ku Paw I remember the time when I arrived at the Thunder Bay Airport where my aunty and my cousins were waiting for me at the designated area. When I saw them I was so happy because we had never really seen each other since I was born. Reuniting with them and at the same time arriving to a new country made me very excited. What followed the next day was my oldest cousin took me to several offices and helped me apply for permanent resident card, social insurance number, health card, and bankcard. When I first arrived here I could not sleep at night. I slept during daytime. This was because the time zone here and the time zone in my country were different. Also, when I first went to school to learn English I took the wrong bus and got lost. One other thing that is different is the weather condition. I find that it is very cold here and I see lots of snow. In this city I get to see many tall buildings and they look very pretty. In refugee camps, there are no tall buildings like this. A clothing store that I like to go the most to buy clothes is Intercity Mall. Living here, I get to go to school without interruptions and I also get the chance to work freely. At present, my mother, my younger sister, and myself are living at Limbrick Place. During nighttime when we were sleeping people would always knock so loudly at our door and we would get so scared. There are many changes that come with this resettlement. We get to see new things and get to learn so much. With every day’s experiences I learn new things. As of now, I have lived in Thunder Bay, Canada for 9 months. I find that I speak English better now than I did 9 months ago and so I am very pleased and happy with my progress.
