Free Income Tax Clinic

The Thunder Bay Multicultural Association is hosting a free income tax clinic for low-income immigrants.

Total household income must be less than $17,000 without dependents, or less than $25,000 with dependants.

Location: TBMA, 17 N. Court Street
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

What you need...

  1. Copy of last year's income tax return and Notice of Assessment
  2. 2008 blank tax return (T1 General Form)
  3. Social Insurance Number for you and your spouse/common-law partner (if applicable)
  4. List of dependents & exact birth dates (day, month, year)
  5. All receipts of income, for example:
    - Salary and wages (T4)
    - Pension, retirement, annuity and other income (scholarships) (T4A)
    - Registered Income Fund income (T4RIF)
    - Registered Retirement Savings Plan income (T4RSP)
    - Canada Pension Plan benefits (T4A (P))
    - Old Age Security benefits (T4A (OAS))
    - Employment Insurance (T4E)
    - Interest & dividends (T5)
    - Statement of trust income (T3)
    - Worker's compensation/Social assistance (T5007)
    - Canada Savings Bonds interest benefits (T600)
    - Universal Child Care Benefits Statement (RC62)
  6. All receipts for expenses, for example:
    - Property taxes or rent paid during the year and all addresses of place of residence during the year and name(s) of landlord
    - Child care expenses (plus caregiver's Social Insurance Number) including form T778
    - Medical expenses
    - Interest expenses
    - Adoption expenses
    - Charitable and political donations
    - Child fitness expenses
    - Transit passes & receipts
    - Union dues
    - Tuition fees/Education amount (T2202/T2202A)
    - Student loan interest
    - RRSP contributions
    - Disability certificate (if first year of claim - form T2201)
  7. Details of spouse's income & dependant's income
  8. Date of marriage or separation (if in 2008)
  9. Details of alimony and maintenance payments received or paid
  10. If claiming tax credit for non-resident spouse or children, date of birth, complete address & proof of payment (generally receipts for money order) for funds sent to dependants
  11. If new immigrant, date of arrival in Canada.
