It also includes valuable information on Canadian life and customs, local services and organizations. Finding Our Way was created as a way to support the transition of newcomer youth into Canadian culture. It provided a forum for a group whose voice is generally not heard regarding their immigrant or refugee experiences. Youth from various ethnic backgrounds have come together to share their stories, poetry, and photography with the hope that they will provide help for other newcomers as they settle in Canada. In reading these stories, you might find the support, camaraderie, humour and insights needed for dealing with a potentially overwhelming period of your life. For newcomers, we hope that both the stories and the information will give you a better understanding of your settlement experiences in Canada and that while you read through these pages, you might glimpse the life of others and discover how similar it may be to yours. And for everyone else reading these stories, we hope they provide you with insights and understanding of the lives and challenges of newcomer youth. Remember that no matter where you’re from, what race you are, how old you may be, or what you look like, we are all human, finding our way on this planet we call Earth. In order to maintain the true voice of the youth, the stories have been reproduced as close to the original submissions as possible, with minimal editing for clarity and spelling.
